Q: Can you tell me more about this site?
A: Jade Reporting was founded in September of 2006 for the purpose of archiving any and all information that deals with gender and video games. Bad news, good news, just news… it doesn’t matter, we will archive it all. The lofty goals of this blog are not to pass judgement on the news that we offer up, but rather to collect them in the hopes of enabling more dialogue to happen in the blogsphere on the topic of gender and video games.
Above all, we strive to be objective, and to that end the links that we post will not have any commentary outside of possible clarification (if the post linked to has no title, a note about the subject will be put up) and categorization for easy access.
Q: What’s up with the name?
A: Jade Reporting was chosen to pay homage to the video game Beyond Good and Evil, which is frequently lauded for (among other things) the way in which gender was presented in the game. “Jade Reporting” is the main character’s eponymous reporting company and the vehicle through which she is able to become part of the resistence movement and eventually save the day.
Q: This is a great idea for a blog! How’d you think of it?
A: The truth is, we didn’t. The idea for this blog came directly from When Fangirls Attack (WFA), which is a site about women and comics run off of the same premise. Tekanji realized one day that while she’s much more of a gamer than a comics fan, she was interacting more with the comics blogsphere than the gaming one — due, to the most part, to WFA.
Q: Who founded the site?
A: Tekanji founded the blog in September of 2006 as an attempt to reconnect with the gaming community at large. You can read more about her on her member profile.
Q: Please remove my link from your site!
A: Please see our Official Linking Policy.
Q: How do I submit a link, offer a suggestion, or otherwise contact the JR team?
A: Getting in touch with the JR team is simple!
You can:
- Contact us via our contact form.
- Participate in or create a new thread on Iris’ forums.
Q: Why do some of your post title dates and the blog dates not match?
A: The answer to that is that tekanji currently lives in Japan, but keeps the blog on PST for mysterious reasons (could it be laziness? maybe!). What that means is that her “morning roundup” may be a midnight read for some people. All in all, it is not an overly important point so for now it’ll stand.
