Wish Jade Reporting was updated more frequently? Have some time to help out? Well, this is the page for you!
Q: What can I do to help?
A: So you want to volunteer, but you aren’t sure that you have the time needed to be a full-fledged archiver. In fact, you might not even be sure what being a full-fledged archiver entails.
Duty 1: Archiving Posts
This is the most important job of the archiver, but it is also the most time consuming one. It’s collecting all of the posts on gaming and gender from our group Bloglines account and posting them here. Because of the sheer amount of material to sort through, generally an archiver collects the posts until they get tired and then post what they have. This can be anything from a 20 minute stint to a 3 hour gig.
Duty 2: Bloglines Housekeeping
This is often done at the same time as archiving, but not always. When an archiver doesn’t have enough time and/or energy to do a post, they can still log into Bloglines and go through some feeds — clicking on the “keep as new” box for posts relevant to this site.
Duty 3: Adding New Blogs
This duty comes from regular reading of gaming blogs; if an archiver comes across a post on gaming and gender on a blog that is not yet on the Bloglines account, they may choose to add it for future reference.
Q: Where do I sign up?
A: If you want to volunteer, just go to the contact page and select the select the “Volunteering” option. Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you want to volunteer. It is also highly recommended that you join the Iris forums because we do our main organizing over there.
Q: Is there anything else I can do to help?
A: As a matter of fact, there is. Even if you don’t want to become an archiver, you can still help by turning us onto new blogs and linking us to posts and articles related to gaming and gender. All you need to do is go to the Contact Us page and fire off the links.
